April Lockhart

April Lockhart, born in 1995 on July 4th July, began taking guitar and piano lessons at age seven. Her passion for writing songs was ignited. April Lockhart composed her very first song, Different at age of 12. At the age of 14, April committed a large amount of time in writing songs and practicing her musical skills. After that, she started taking journeys to write with her father, who lived in NY as well as LA. April was able to add other relevant topics into the song, such as the Take my Hand song for some friends, such as peer-pressure issues and suicide among teens. Lockhart works in partnerships at top clean-skin brand Ilia and is also a lifestyle blogger with her own growing following. She was born with no left hand. This makes her unique. But this isn't the only thing about her. As a result Lockhart's Instagram profile isn't afraid to talk about her disability, but it doesn't center around the issue either. What's the message? The message? That we each contain multitudes, that our bodies and identities don't always reflect what appear. We don't want to allow that to determine me. I do not want to be a disability influencer which is what I'm talking about as there are many other aspects to me Lockhart says via video from her home in Nashville. The fact that it's not affecting my day-to-day life I do things normally, and I've discovered the best way for me to adapt the things. Because it is also part of me I think it's worthy of discussion. Lockhart is a great example for self-acceptance in general and is currently on a lengthy path to reach this. She still admits to going through phases with regard to her body and feeling uncertain about clothing choices which exposed her arms. Now, though she dons what she's comfortable in and post photos in those outfits to social media, she is proud of herself. Self-love, she says, can be described as a trip. "I doubt you'll be in that place," she said. This is a process, and I'm sure that you never get there. It's important to have people in your life who know and can relate to you. They will be able to remind you of the things you're worried about.
